former bookstores  past events in our stores
Over the many years that our stores were open, we had the chance to meet and showcase many fine writers, poets, singers, artists and others, in a wide variety of events. Off the top of my head, that variety spanned from Amy Tan speaking to a very excited crowd in a space above our first store, to great bands playing in our monthly in-store live music series, to several Harry Potter midnight release events, to a great Day of the Dead celebration and meal in the Main Street Woodland store. We are also very proud of the fact that we provided a free place for countless groups to hold their public and private meetings ... we always wanted people to feel connected and come together, to be a part of the community.
On October 16, 1995, we held a very special event, Vicky and I were married in our G Street bookstore, surrounded by a circle of friends and relatives.
Below are just some of the people, and some of the events we were involved with.

book  a listing of authors from our many events
book  a listing of our First Sunday Folk live music concerts
book  our Village Idiot's book club and others
book  the poets we hosted in the Placerville bookstore

For those curious about the man in the background of this page,
it's the famous cartoonist and character
Robert Crumb.
Because he knew Vicky from his time near Winters,
he was kind enough to come and play music with some of his friends,
for the Grand Opening of our very first bookstore,
Mansion Book Merchants, way back in 1987.

Cranston building  some of our author friends - a list of websites of some of the fine writers we hosted in our bookstores
It's been a long time since many of these events went down, but it's always great to see a familiar face and remember a good time with these special people ... writers. The names listed in blue are actually links to their websites ... highly clickable.

We would like to give thanks for the many times that the local musical group, trio ma non troppo, has played in our different stores over the years. I like to call them our "house band" from Woodland. They are a small and very talented group that play flute and strings. They were always a pleasure, as they made our different stores sound so good..
